Maloney, Emerson, and White lead Tigers past Emory & Henry

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 29, 2013) – Two goals by Ford Emerson helped lead the Sewanee men's soccer team to an impressive 4-1 victory over Emory & Henry Sunday at Puett Field.

Sewanee has now won five straight matches and have scored four goals in its past two contests. During their five-match winning streak the Tigers have outscored their opponents, 13-4.

After taking multiple shots in the first four minutes, Emerson broke the scoreless tie in the eighth minutes when he converted from teammate William White.

Minutes later White would be the one that scored, when the freshman midfielder received a well placed pass from Brian Maloney and beat the outcoming keeper at the top of the box.

After a late first-half goal by Emory & Henry, Sewanee retook the momentum in the second half.

In the 62nd minute Emerson blasted a cross from White to make the score 3-1.

Then seven minutes later, Maloney got behind the defense and tapped his shot in to close out the scoring.

Overall, Sewanee finished with a season-high 29 shots.

Additionally, freshman goalkeeper Holden Foster improved to 5-0-0 this season with his fifth straight win.

The Tigers will look to continue their winning streak with their first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match of the season against Oglethorpe, October 5th. That match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Puett Field.
