Box Score Mt. Berry, Ga. (Sept. 20, 2013) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Berry earned a 3-0 victory over the Sewanee volleyball team Friday inside the Cage Center.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 9-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Berry improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league action.
After dropping the first set 25-20, the Tigers struggled in the second frame hitting .000 in the 25-15 loss.
In the final set, Sewanee briefly held a lead at 9-7 after Kayla Sewell had a kill off an assist from Walker Buxton.
Unfortunately, Berry would make a run at 9-7 and eventually lead 22-15 after Sewanee had a service error.
Sewanee would make a run of its own after Caroline Montgomery, Jamie Sue Wilson, and Diamond Stewart had three consecutive kills.
However, with the score at 24-22, outside hitter Gretchen Kaufman finished off the set and match with a kill.
The Tigers were paced by Sewell, who finished with a team-high seven kills and a .385 attack percentage.
Additionally, Buxton and fellow setter Rachel Schuman added 10 assists each while Sara Jayne Sutton finished with a career-high 13 digs.
Berry was led by Emily Stromberg, who added a match-high 12 kills to go along with her .455 attack percentage.
The Tigers will look to earn their first SAA win of the season with a noon contest (EST) at Oglethorpe, Saturday.
