Wilson leads Tigers to an opening-day sweep

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Aug. 30, 2013) – Led by a strong performance by junior Jamie Sue Wilson, the Sewanee volleyball team opened its season with a pair of victories Friday inside Juhan Gymnasium. 

The Tigers opened the Sewanee Invitational by defeating Brescia and Pikeville, 3-0.

Individually, Wilson led Sewanee with 21 kills and 10 digs. In both matches, the Tulsa, Okla., native averaged 3.50 kills per set while hitting .261. 

Additionally, freshman Diamond Stewart played well in her first two collegiate contests. The Nashville, Tenn., native added 11 kills and 12 digs from her outside hitter position. 

Also, junior Rachel Schuman led the Tigers in assists with 30 while sophomore Lucy Riddle pitched in eight kills and five block assists. 

As a team, Sewanee finished with a .349 attack percentage on 152 total attempts.

The Tigers will quickly return to action with a 10:00 a.m. match against Piedmont, Saturday.
