SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 5, 2013) – The Sewanee men's tennis team opened its final home regular season weekend with a strong 9-0 victory over regional-rival Covenant, Friday.
The Tigers (8-5) wasted little time getting their first point when Grant Hopkins and Rand Jackson teamed up to win their No. 1 doubles match 8-4 against Ray Anderson and Collum Sears.
After victories by Levi Joy and Trapp Tubbs, along with a win by the team of Sean Laughlin and Logan Rafield, Sewanee opened singles action with a 3-0 lead.
In the individual contests Sewanee continued to roll. Roddy opened the victories with a strong 6-0, 6-0 win over Anderson at No. 1.
Moments later, Winkler topped Jonathan Turner by a score of 6-0, 6-0 while Joy earned his second point of the day with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Sears.
David Human then made the score 7-0 in favor of Sewanee with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Colter Burch.
Finally, Nelson Jetmundsen put away Tim Arhenholz with ease while Rafield blew out Jeffrey Cox in straight sets.
The Tigers quickly return to action with a 9:00 a.m. contest against rival Rhodes, Saturday.
