Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 21, 2013) – Despite a late homerun by Sarah Anne Hamilton, Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Centre capped off a four-game sweep of the Sewanee softball team Sunday at Tiger Field.
Hamilton's dramatic two-run homerun with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning drew the Tigers to within one run, but the Colonels were able to retire the next two Sewanee hitters to preserve the 5-4 win the nightcap of the conference doubleheader.
Trailing 5-2 with one out in the seventh, Sarah Fleming singled to centerfield. Hamilton followed with a line drive that cleared the left centerfield fence to make the score 5-4. A pop out and a ground out ended the Sewanee threat and the game.
Kayla Sewell led the Tiger eight-hit attack with two hits and one RBI. Fleming, Hamilton, Sara Burklin, Cooper Killen, Sarah Walker, and Brigid Lanigan all had one hit each.
Killen was the hard-luck loser for the Tigers.
In the first game of the afternoon twin bill, Hamilton was the losing pitcher in the 11-2 Centre win.
Michelle Thibodeaux and Killen each had two hits in three plate appearances to lead the Sewanee offense. Fleming and Sewell had one hit each. Sewell's hit was a two-run double.
