ROME, Ga. (Nov. 8, 2013) – The seventh-seeded Sewanee volleyball team hammered second-seeded Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Centre, 3-0, Friday afternoon inside the Cage Center.
The winner advances Sewanee to the SAA Tournament semifinals, Saturday. The Tigers will take on No. 3 seed Hendrix, who defeated No. 6 Rhodes, 3-0.
After earning a 25-21 first-set victory, Sewanee survived the second set 27-25. Then in the third set, the Tigers closed out the Colonels in a close, extended 32-30 win.
Overall, Sewanee posted its seventh most points in a single match this season. The Tigers also recorded their second most digs (88) in a single match, which limited Centre to a .124 attack percentage.
Individually, junior Jamie Sue Wilson led the attack with 17 kills and 17 digs. Freshman outside hitter Diamond Stewart also finished with a double-double after she added 14 kills and 10 digs.
Additionally, sophomore libero Jamie Kosman stopped a match-high 25 digs while junior Kayla Sewell finished with 12.
Centre was led by Beth Cecil and Suzanne Asbury, who finished with 10 kills each.
