No. 5 Tigers upset No. 4 seed and host Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Nov. 8, 2013) – The fifth-seeded Sewanee women's soccer team upset fourth-seeded and Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament host Birmingham-Southern, 2-1, Friday afternoon at Goldfarb Field.

The win advances Sewanee to the SAA Tournament semifinals, Saturday. The Tigers also improved their overall record to 11-5-1.

Early in the first half, sophomore forward Emily Driver fired home a rebound shot from freshman teammate Shelby Meckstroth.

As play continued, freshman midfielder Nikki Johnston pushed the Tiger lead to 2-0 off an assist from junior Jamie Samociuk.

BSC would finally break through late in the second half, when Bailey Kimbell scored.

Overall, Sewanee survived a barrage of shots from the Panthers. Despite being outshot 20-9, sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Glascoe stopped five shots in 90 minute of action.

The Tigers will now take on No. 1 seed Centre College, Saturday. The Colonels upended No. 8 seed Millsaps, 2-0.
