Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 20, 2013) – Despite fighting back from two sets down, the Sewanee volleyball team dropped a close 3-2 decision at Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Birmingham-Southern Sunday.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 13-10 overall and 4-8 in SAA play.
After the Panthers opened with 25-21 and 25-19 victories, the Tigers rallied in the third by a score of 25-23. Sewanee followed that set up by hitting .323 in the fourth set en route to a 25-20 win.
Unfortunately, BSC took control of the fifth set winning the final frame 15-10.
Individually, Jamie Sue Wilson played well with 19 kills, four digs, three blocks, and one service ace.
Additionally, Kayla Sewell add her second straight double-double in as many days, as the Calhoun, Tenn., native finished with 10 kills and 13 digs.
Along with Sewell, freshman Kristy Gray added a career-high 26 digs while libero Jamie Kosman stopped 18 attacks.
Outside hitter Alex Bothe led BSC with 17 kills and 14 digs.
Sewanee will look to break its recent three-match losing streak against rival Rhodes next Saturday. That contest is scheduled to begin at noon in Memphis, Tenn.
