Covenant downs Sewanee, 51-43

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 22, 2013) – Despite a valiant second-half effort, the Sewanee women's basketball team fell to regional-rival Covenant, 51-43, Tuesday evening inside Juhan Gymnasium.

After ending the first half on a strong note, Sewanee came out of the locker room slow. A three by Haley Soles pushed the Lady Scots' advantage to 14, 40-26, with just over two minutes off the clock.

Over the next 10 minutes, Sewanee responded. Behind scores from Paige Lowe, Jamie Samociuk, and Kayla Sewell, the Tigers used a 11-0 run to pull within three, 40-37, with 8:40 to play.

Unfortunately, all the energy Sewanee used during its comeback started to fade down the stretch. Over the final six minutes, Covenant took advantage of an 11-6 run to slowly pull away.

Individually, the Tigers had balanced scoring from three players. Lowe, along with Sewell, each had a team-high 12 points while freshman Jamie Chauvin added 11.

Additionally, Sewell finished the game with her fourth double-double of the season after she pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Soles led the Lady Scots with a game-high 13 points.

The Tigers will look to snap their recent losing streak as long-time rival Rhodes travels to Sewanee, Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
