Box Score 2 MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Sept. 29, 2012) – The Sewanee volleyball team earned a pair of victories Saturday, as the Tigers defeated Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes and Lyon College inside Mallory Gymnasium.
With the two wins, Sewanee equaled last season's win total of eight. Currently, Sewanee is 8-6 overall and 2-4 in SAA action.
Sewanee opened the day with a 3-1 (15-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-22) win over Rhodes. In that match, Sewanee had its second-best hitting percentage this season. Individually, Jamie Sue Wilson led the Tigers with 12 kills, 19 digs, and a block. Additionally, Rebecca Hannigan (seven) and Caroline Montgomery (nine) dominated the middle, with a combined 16 kills and three total blocks.
In the afternoon, Sewanee continued to roll with a 3-2 (15-25, 18-25, 25-22, 29-27, 15-4) victory over Lyon. In a match that featured a number of long points and sets, Sewanee showed its character in the comeback.
After Sewanee won a long fourth set with a kill by Maggie Stanford, the Tigers dominated the final set. Overall, the Tigers finished with a season-high 26 assisted blocks. Individually, Wilson again led Sewanee with 11 kills. Additionally, Kayla Sewell had a team-high 18 digs while Jamie Kosman stopped 12 attacks.
The Tigers continue their five-match road trip at Hendrix, Sunday. That match is scheduled to start at noon.
