Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 26, 2012) – The Sewanee volleyball team picked up two more wins Wednesday night, as the Tigers defeated Fisk (25-10, 25-11, 25-20) and Cumberland (25-22, 25-16, 25-19) inside Juhan Gymnasium.
With its two victories Wednesday, Sewanee improved to 6-6. That record is only two wins shy of the Tigers' win total in 2011.
In their first match against Fisk, the Tigers came out strong. Sophomore Jamie Sue Wilson led the attack with a complete performance. The Tulsa, Okla., native finished with five kills, 15 digs, and one block. Additionally, freshman Rebecca Hannigan had a career-high eight kills, three service aces, and one total block.
In match two against Cumberland, Sewanee continued to play better throughout the contest. After a close 25-22 first-set win, the Tigers blew away the Bulldogs, 25-16 and 25-19 in the final two games.
The Tigers were again led by Wilson, who finished with nine kills, one service ace, 11 digs, and two total blocks. Sewanee also got great play from sophomore Kayla Sewell. The Calhoun, Tenn., native finished with five kills, nine digs, and three and a half blocks.
Additionally, freshman Lucy Riddle finished with four kills and four blocks, while Caroline Montgomery had two kills and eight and a half blocks.
Sewanee will look to continue its winning ways with a pair of matches at Rhodes, Saturday. The Tigers will first take on the Lynx at noon and then face Lyon College at 2:30 p.m.
