Box Score JACKSON, Miss. (Sept. 21, 2012) – Despite a six-kill two-block performance by freshmen Caroline Montgomery and Lucy Riddle, the Sewanee volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-19) decision at Southern Athletic Association (SAA) member Millsaps, Friday, inside the Hangr Dome.
After the Majors jumped out to a 13-2 lead early, Millsaps cruised to a 25-14 first-set win.
In the second set, Sewanee stayed close through the first 22 points, as sophomore Kayla Sewell tied the match 11-11 with a kill from Rachel Schuman. Unfortunately, Millsaps responded with three straight points to push its lead to 14-11. From there, the Majors would slowly pull away after Sewanee gave away points with a number of attack errors.
In the final set, Sewanee took its first lead of the match when Riddle and Kayla Sewell blocked an attack by Olivia Klayer. The score would remain close, until Millsaps closed the set on an 8-2 run.
Overall, Sewanee finished with 24 kills and a .042 hitting percentage. Individually, Montgomery and Riddle were joined by Jamie Sue Wilson, who finished with four kills and nine digs, and libero Jamie Kosman, who finished with a career-high 15 digs.
