Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 18, 2012) – Despite a valiant effort by the Sewanee volleyball team, the Tigers dropped a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22) decision against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Centre, Tuesday night, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
With the loss, Sewanee fell to a 4-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Tigers stayed close throughout the first two sets. Neither team led by more than two points, until Centre pulled away at 23-20 in both sets.
In the third set, the Colonels came out strong. Centre led 5-1 until sophomore Kayla Sewell stopped the attack with a kill. Later in the set, the Colonels continued to take advantage of their opportunities when a kill by Lydia Prevost and an ace by Catherine Janszen push the Centre advantage to 20-13.
Sewanee did manage to rally over the next nine points, however Centre closed the match with kill by Janszen.
Jamie Sue Wilson, who finished with nine kills and seven digs, led Sewanee. Additionally, middle blocker Caroline Montgomery had a strong match with five kills while Sewell finished with six.
After three straight home contests, Sewanee returns to action with a 6:00 p.m., road match, Friday, at Millsaps.
