First-half goals lift Covenant past Sewanee

Box Score

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (Sept. 12, 2012) – The Sewanee women's soccer team could not overcome two first-half goals by host Covenant, as the Scots held on for a 2-1 win, Wednesday, at Scotland Yard.

After Katelyn Newsome and Jenna Vreeland scored for Covenant, (3-1-1) the Tigers got on the board with a goal by forward Bobbe Chaffin. On the play, Chaffin chipped a perfectly placed ball over Covenant keeper Hannah Bates in the 51st minute.

Unfortunately, Sewanee would not find the back of net again, despite taking nine additional shots.

Overall, the Tigers outshot the Scots 16-10. Additionally, Sewanee held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Individually, Chaffin led Sewanee with four shots. Teammates Allie White and Bess Goodman added three attempts each.

The Tigers will look to break their two-match losing streak at Emory, Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., (EST) in Atlanta.
