MEMPHIS, Tenn. 3/25/12 – The Rhodes College Lynx swept an SCAC doubleheader from the Sewanee Tigers today in Memphis. The Lynx downed the Tigers 4-0 in the opener and 3-1 in the second game.
With the losses the Tigers fall to 1-10 on the season and 0-4 in SCAC play.
Sarah Hamilton suffered the loss in the first game of the afternoon. Hamilton pitched the complete game allowing four runs on nine hits.
Sewanee was led at the plate by
Kayla Sewell,
Codi Ellis and Emily Culberston with one hit each. Sewell's hit was a double.
Claire Knepshield and
Michelle Thibodeaux led the Sewanee eight-hit attack with two hits each in the second game of the doubleheader.
Grace Cobbs,
Erin Polena, Hamilton and Sewell each contributed a hit. Polena had one RBI.
Thibodeaux was the losing pitcher in Game 2. Thibodeaux allowed two runs on five hits in five innings of work.
The Tigers scored their only run of the day in the seventh inning when Cobbs reached second base on an error by the Lynx third baseman. Cobbs was driven home on a single by Polena.
Sewanee will return to action on Friday when it hosts Rust College. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 noon.
