Box Score ROME, Ga. (Nov 2, 2012) – The Sewanee volleyball team closed out an incredible season with a 3-0 loss against Birmingham-Southern, Friday, at the first-ever Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Volleyball Championships.
Despite the defeat, the Tigers finished with a 14-11 overall record. In fact, that total was the program's best finish since 1999.
After a close first set, Sewanee controlled the second set early. With Sewanee up 18-9, the Panthers comeback started. After nine straight points by BSC, the Tigers briefly stopped BSC's momentum with back-to-back kills. However, BSC did not quit, the Panthers scored three straight points to lead at 23-20. From there, a kill by Katie Johnson and an ace by Katie O'Bar gave BSC a two-set lead.
In the final set, the Panthers took command quickly. BSC lead 18-8 before Sewanee went on a mini 9-3 run. Unfortunately, the Tigers could not get any closer as eventually BSC closed the set and match at 25-21.
As a team, Sewanee finished with .186 attack percentage. Individually, Caroline Montgomery led the offense with eight kills while Jamie Sue Wilson paced the defense with 10 digs.
