Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 20, 2012) – For the second time this season, the Sewanee volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-16, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21) victory over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes.
After the Tigers defeated the Lynx by the same score September 29th, Sewanee earned its 11 victory of the season against Rhodes, Saturday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers dominated the Lynx the first set with a .269 attack percentage. After Sewanee and Rhodes split the ensuing second and third sets, the Tigers kept rolling in the fourth.
With both teams tied at 19-19, Sewanee took over. Kills by Jamie Sue Wilson and Lucy Riddle put Sewanee up 21-19. After a kill by Rhodes, Sewanee stayed strong with a kill by Rebecca Hannigan and assisted block by Kayla Sewell and Maggie Stanford. The Tigers eventually closed out the set and match, when Rhodes had a pair of attack errors.
Overall, Wilson led the attack with 16 kills and 16 digs. Freshman Caroline Montgomery also played well with seven kills, one dig, and one assisted block. Additionally, Rachel Schuman and Virginia Boyd combined for 22 assists while Jamie Kosman finished with a match-high 22 digs.
Sewanee will quickly return to action with a noon match against Hendrix College, Sunday.
