Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 13, 2012) – Playing against one of the top programs in the nation, the Sewanee men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision against visiting Christopher Newport, Sunday, at Puett Field.
The Captains jumped out to a quick first-half lead, when Andrew Bonorden and Sean Moriatry scored.
Down 2-0 to start the second half, Sewanee came out strong. After a foul by Christopher Newport, senior Samuel Edoung-Biyo served a beautiful free kick inside the box, where Paul Campbell redirected the ball past CNU goalkeeper Sean Killon.
Despite a valiant effort, Sewanee could not overcome its early deficit. After the Tigers cut the lead to 2-1, CNU added a late goal by Jack Cooper.
Overall, Christopher Newport finished with a 17-6 shot advantage. Despite having fewer shot attempts, Sewanee did finish with a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Individually, Dillon Flynn led the Tigers with two shots, while Derek Williams and Jacob Zalewski combined for five saves.
After stepping outside Southern Athletic Association play for one match, Sewanee returns to conference action with a 4:00 p.m., contest at Rhodes, October 19th.
