Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 13, 2012) – Despite a valiant comeback effort, the Sewanee volleyball team dropped a 3-2 (25-13, 25-14, 24-26, 24-26, 15-12) Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match against Millsaps, Saturday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
After the Majors won the first two sets, Millsaps had its first match-point at 24-20. Just when it looked like Millsaps would cruise to an easy three-set victory, Sewanee fought back.
The Tigers took advantage of back-to-back attack errors to cut the deficit to 24-22. After kills by Jamie Sue Wilson and another error by the Majors, Millsaps called a timeout. The Tigers then won their first game, when Jamie Kosman served an ace and Millsaps had another attack error.
In game four, Sewanee faced a similar situation late. Millsaps held match-point at 24-22, before Sewanee rallied again. After kills by Lucy Riddle and Maggie Stanford, Wilson eventually put down the game-winner at 26-24.
In the final set, the Tigers took a quick 5-2 lead, before Millsaps took a timeout. Out of the break, the Majors fired consecutive kills. After another kill by Wilson, both teams battled back and forth over the next 10 points.
With the score tied at 12-12, Millsaps' Mary Wilson put the Majors up with a block. After a kill by Kasey Laird, the Majors finally earned their 16th win when Sewanee hit an attack error.
Individually, Wilson finished the match with 11 kills and 19 digs. Sophomore Kayla Sewell added six kills and 18 digs, while Kosman pitched in 22 digs at her libero position.
Sewanee returns to action with a 5:30 p.m., match at Centre, Tuesday.
