Sewanee stays strong with 1-0 win at LaGrange

LaGrange, Ga. (Sept. 17, 2011) – A second half goal by senior forward Matt Lightfoot was the difference as the Sewanee men's soccer team picked up its third win with a 1-0 victory at LaGrange College, Saturday at Panther Field.
 
With their triumph the Tigers now sit at 3-1-1, with their last lost coming all the way back on September 2nd against Mississippi College.
 
On the score junior midfielder Zack Goodwin served a beautiful pass over the LaGrange defense, where Lightfoot pressured the Panther defender. The senior forward then beat LaGrange goalkeeper Donnie Palmer with a shot towards the near post for the game-winner in the 61st minute.
 
Overall, the Tigers outshot the Panthers 12-11, while sophomore goalkeeper Derek Williams picked up another shutout after posting five saves.
 
Sewanee will now return to Puett Field for the next two weeks as starts its home stretch with a 5:00 p.m. match against Tennessee Temple, September 23rd.
