Second half goals send Trinity past Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Stokes McConnell scored late in the second half, but Trinity scored three goals in the second half, as Sewanee fell, 4-1, on Friday afternoon at Puett Field in men's soccer action.

Thomas McGowan tallied Sewanee's first shot of the game, forcing Jayden Schell, in goal for Trinity, to make a save.

With 10:50 left in the half, Wels McLeod created another dangerous opportunity for the Tigers, forcing Schell to make a save with the back of his heel. However, Trinity took advantage of Sewanee's forward numbers, as Gabriel Romanenko found Eloy Ferrer, who slotted the ball past Reid Gunzenhauser to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.

Brady Lloyd nearly found the equalizer with 8:30 remaining in the half, but his shot from just inside the box sailed high. Sewanee continued to create opportunities, but Trinity carried its one-goal advantage into halftime.

The Tigers had a chance to even the score early in the second half when Grayson White drew a penalty kick, but Schell made the save to keep Sewanee off the board.

Trinity extended its lead in the 60th minute, as Eduardo Parra scored off an assist from Daniel Urquidi. Thomas Kay added another goal in the 69th minute before Ferrer scored his second of the game in the 82nd minute to put the visitors ahead 4-0.

Sewanee broke through late in the contest, as McConnell found the back of the net in the 85th minute to get the Tigers on the scoreboard. However, Trinity held on for the 4-1 victory.

Sewanee finished with 14 shots, including seven on goal, while Gunzenhauser recorded one save in goal. Schell finished with five saves for Trinity.

Sewanee will host Southwestern on Sunday afternoon, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
