DECATUR, Ga. 9/13/11 – The Sewanee Tigers came out the winner of a hard-fought battle with Agnes Scott College tonight in Decatur, Georgia by the score of 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-4).
In the fifth, and deciding set, freshman
Rachel Schuman started the game with eight straight service points to propel the Tigers to the 15-4 set win and seal the 3-2 match victory.
The Tigers were led statistically in tonight's match by four members of the freshman class.
Jamie Sue Wilson paced the Tigers with 20 kills, while Schuman contributed 23 assists and seven service aces.
Kayla Sewell led the way with 20 digs and six blocks. Wilson and
Nicole Klug added 19 digs each. Sophomore middle blocker
Tarver Shimek hit a season-high .346 in the match.
With the victory over the Scotties, Sewanee's first on the road this season, the Tigers upped their record to 4-5.
The Tigers will return to action on Friday night as they square off at home with Covenant College at 6:00 pm at Juhan Gymnasium.
