The Sewanee men's tennis team closed out the 2011 regular season on Wednesday with a 9-0 loss to visiting Washington & Lee University. The Generals swept all three doubles matches before winning at each of the singles' slots to take home the victory. The Tigers fall to 12-6 overall while W&L improves to 13-3 on the year.
W&L's Mac Davis and Jonathan Gaffney teamed up to defeat Jay Hill and Levi Joy at \#1 doubles, 8-4. The Generals earned a win at \#2 doubles, as Brian Roberts and Hayden White were 8-5 winners over Will Holloway and Phillip Kuntz. Sewanee's Grant Hopkins and Oliver Crawford fell 8-3 in the \#3 spot to Jeremy Becht and Michael Freeman.
At \#1 singles, White defeated Hill, 6-2, 6-2, before Becht was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at \#2 singles over Hopkins. Freeman topped Joy, 6-4, 6-2, at \#3 singles, and Kunz fell to Gaffney, 6-3, 6-1, in the four spot. W&L's Ben Fass was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Holloway at \#5 singles and Roberts wrapped up the sweep for the Generals at \#6 singles, downing Crawford, 6-3, 6-3.
Sewanee will now move on to the SCAC Championships beginning Friday. The Tigers are the \#5 seed and will face Oglethorpe University at 8 a.m. in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
