Sewanee, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's tennis team won four of six singles matches and picked up a pair of doubles wins to earn a 6-3 win over visiting Covenant College Wednesday afternoon. The win moves the Tigers to 12-5 on the year.
Sewanee senior duo Philip Kuntz and Will Holloway stared things off with an 8-1 win over Covenant's Johnny Herbench and Andy Jones at \#2 doubles. Oliver Crawford and Grant Hopkins also picked up a point for the Tigers at \#3 doubles after winning 8-3 over the Covenant pair of Snipes and Chase. The Scots earned a point at \#1 doubles as Josh Jeremiah and John Hirte defeated Sewanee's Jay Hill and Levi Joy, 8-2.
Jeremiah topped Hill at \#1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2, while Hopkins defeated Hirte at \#2 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Joy earned a point for the Tigers at the \#3 spot, downing Herbench 6-3, 6-1. Kuntz grabbed a win at \#4 singles, toppling Jones 6-0, 6-0, while Holloway earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at the five spot over Sean Guerry. Brandon Snipes earned the final point for Covenant, winning 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 over Andrew Jolley.
Sewanee will compete next against Washington and Lee when they host the Generals on April 20 at 2 p.m.
