The Sewanee men's tennis team got back on track Friday afternoon, beating host Biola University, 6-3, in La Mirada, California to snap a two-match skid and move to 4-3 on the season. The Tigers won four of six singles' matches on the way to the win, while also taking home victories at \#1 and \#2 doubles.
Sewanee' Jay Hill (Greenville, S.C., Southside) teamed up with Levi Joy (Brock, Texas, Brock High School) at \#1 doubles and the pair took home a point for the Tigers after downing Biola's Weston Leopold and Brent Worthington, 8-5. Sewanee also got a win at \#2 doubles after Philip Kuntz (Atlanta, Ga., Dunwoody) and Will Holloway (Augusta, Ga., Lakeside) teamed up to take down the Eagles' David Mossman and Chris Anderson in a hard-fought match, 9-8 (7-5). Biola did get a doubles' point at the \#3 slot, as the Eagle pairing of Daniel Westman and Ryan Adams topped Sewanee's Grant Hopkins (Memphis, Tenn., Memphis University School) and Oliver Crawford (Charleston, W. Va., George Washington High School), 8-6.
The Tigers were dominant in the singles' matches, winning four of six to take home the win. Biola got points at \#1 and \#2 singles, when Leopold defeated Jay Hill, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in the one spot and David Mossman downed Hopkins, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1, at the \#2 slot.
Levi Joy picked up a point for the Tigers at \#3 singles, winning over Biola's Brent Worthington, 6-3, 6-3, before Kuntz picked up a win at \#4, topping Ryan Adams, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). Sewanee also got a win at \#5 singles, as Will Holloway was victorious over Daniel Westman, 6-4, 6-1. Robbie Bland (Houston, Texas, St. John's School) rounded out the Tigers' attack with a win at \#6 singles. Bland downed Biola's Chris Anderson, 6-3, 6-2.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday. Sewanee will take on Cal Tech University at 9:00 a.m. before facing Whittier at 2:00 p.m.
