Late Goals Lift Roanoke Over Sewanee in Men's Soccer

Box Score The Sewanee men's soccer team held Roanoke College scoreless for 84 minutes on Sunday, but two late goals by the Maroons were enough to earn Roanoke a 2-0 victory over the Tigers. Sewanee dropped to 2-4 on the season, while Roanoke lifted their record to 6-2 on the year.

The Tigers were able to hang with the Maroons through the entire first half as they battled to a scoreless tie for nearly the entire contest. Despite being outshot 16-6, Sewanee's defense was able to keep Roanoke at bay until the 85th minute of play. Roanoke's Drew Claytor finally broke the silence with a goal off a free kick that proved to be the game-winner. AJ Tierce added a Maroon insurance goal with less than one minute remaining when he slipped a shot just under the reach of Sewanee keeper Derek Williams.

Sewanee managed only two shots on goal on the day and were led by Garrett Schlosser and Thomas Moore, who tallied two shots apiece. Williams finished the day with five saves for the Tigers.

Sewanee will return to action on Friday when they travel to Centre College and open up SCAC play at 8:00 p.m. EST. The Colonels are 5-1 after picking up a 1-0 win over Wilmington College on Saturday.
