BSC Softball Stops Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Sewanee softball opened its 2010 season at home on Saturday and visiting Birmingham-Southern beat Sewanee 25-2 in the opener and 21-0 in the nightcap.

In game 1, Caitlin Sneeden (New Providence, N.J., New Providence) batted in both of Sewanee's runs and chipped in a hit for the Tigers. Erin Polena (Pittsburgh, Pa., Mt. Lebanon) got one hit and scored a run, and three-sport athlete Virginia Zakas (Atlanta, Ga., Westminster) scored a run, also. Jordan Allen led the Panther hitting with three hits, three runs and two RBIs. Carly Warfield (Nashville, Tenn., Ensworth) was the pitcher of record for Sewanee and Ronni Ferris earned the win for the Panthers.

In game 2, Polena led Sewanee with two hits. January Page led BSC with five runs scored. Warfield was Sewanee's pitcher and Beth Lefler earned the win for BSC.

Sewanee is now 0-2 and also 0-2 in the SCAC. Birmingham-Southern is 8-0.
