MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Sewanee played Huntingdon College in DIII men 's soccer action on Sunday and after 85 minutes of scoreless play,
Matt O'Brien (Lawrenceville, Ga., Collins Hill) hit a goal off of a
Patrick Johnson (Cleveland, Tenn., McCallie) corner kick to send the Tigers up 1-0, which would hold for the Sewanee one-goal win.
The Tigers outshot the Hawks 12-8 and took seven corner kicks compared to one for Huntingdon.
Chris Grover (Collierville, Tenn., St. George's) got the shutout in goal for Sewanee and had three saves. Jordan Osborne had four saves in goal for Huntingdon.
"Both games this past weekend provided opportunities for us which will be valuable in readying us forconference play (beginning next weekend)," said coach
David Poggi. "Both teams (Sewanee beat LaGrange Friday night) presented challenges which will make us better. A clean sheet (not getting scored on) in both games was the result of hard work and discipline," Poggi concluded.
Sewanee is now 4-2 and will host DePauw and Centre next weekend in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) action for Family Weekend.
