SEWANEE, Tenn. 4/18/09 – The Millsaps Majors swept a doubleheader from the Sewanee Tigers today in SCAC softball action in Sewanee. Millsaps topped Sewanee by scores of 16-0 and 16-1.
Sewanee seniors Morgan Cannon (Vidalia, Ga., Vidalia) and Audrey Jernigan (Decatur, Ga., Paideia) were honored on Senior Day prior to the start of the first game.
Millsaps scored six runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 16-0 win over the Tigers in the first game of the doubleheader.
Courtney Hinkle (Tallahassee, Fla., Maclay) was charged with the loss for Sewanee.
The Tigers were led at the plate by Regan Rau (Houston, Tex., St. John's) who picked up two hits in the game. Cannon and Inez Anders (Jackson, Miss., Terry) also had a hit apiece for Sewanee.
In the second game, Millsaps once again got off to a fast start plating eight runs in the top of the first inning in route to a 16-1 win.
The Tigers scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning when Polena and Jernigan drew walks to lead off the inning. Polena scored on an RBI single by Rau.
Rau was the losing pitcher for the Tigers.
Sewanee was led at the plate by Rau, Polena, Jernigan and Carly Warfield (Nashville, Tenn., Ensworth) with one hit each.
The Tigers drop to 2-20 overall and 0-13 in SCAC action.
The Tigers will wrap up the season tomorrow with a doubleheader against Millsaps scheduled to begin at noon.
