DANVILLE, Ky. 4/11/09 – Due to inclement weather in Danville, Ky. on Friday and Easter Sunday, the Sewanee Tigers and the Centre Colonels were forced to play a rare pair of SCAC doubleheaders today in Danville. Centre took both ends of the first doubleheader 4-1 and 26-2. In the second twinbill, the Colonels prevailed 13-0 and 11-0.
In Game 1 of Doubleheader 1, Sewanee scored its run in the top of the fourth inning. Morgan Cannon (Vidalia, Ga., Vidalia) doubled home Audrey Jernigan (Decatur, Ga., Paideia) who had reached base on a single.
Courtney Hinkle (Tallahassee, Fla., Maclay) was the losing pitcher.
Jernigan, Cannon, Hinkle and Brandi Moore (Birmingham, Ala,, Mountain Brook) had one hit apiece for Sewanee.
In the second game of the first doubleheader the Tigers took a quick 1-0 lead when Jernigan scored on a single by Cannon. Jernigan had reached first when she was hit by a pitch.
In the top of the third inning Jernigan singled, stole second base and third base and was driven home for Sewanee's second run on Hinkle's sacrifice fly to left field.
Regan Rau (Houston, Tex., St. John's) suffered the loss in the circle for Sewanee.
Jernigan, Cannon, Rau, Carly Warfield (Nashville, Tenn., Ensworth) and Erin Polena (Pittsburgh, Pa., Mt. Lebanon) all had one hit for the Tigers.
After a short break, the Tigers and Colonels squared off in the second doubleheader of the day.
In Game 1 of Doubleheader 2, Centre defeated Sewanee 13-0
Hinkle picked up the pitching loss for Sewanee.
Jernigan and Hinkle had Sewanee's only hits in the game.
In the second game, the Colonels won 11-0
Rau was the losing pitcher.
Polena, Moore and Inez Anders (Jackson, Miss., Terry) had one hit each for Sewanee.
Sewanee is now 0-18 overall and 0-11 in SCAC play.
The Tigers will host Fisk University in non-conference doubleheader action on Friday. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
