SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Sewanee hosted Millsaps in SCAC football play Saturday and Millsaps topped the host Tigers 61-7 after leading 40-0 at the half. Eighteen Sewanee senior players and student assistant coach
Basil Wilson (Mt. Berry, Ga., Darlington School) were honored before the game in honor of Senior Day.
In the first quarter, Shane Bowser scored two of Millsaps touchdowns, while Kenny Metzger added a running TD. Taylor Russolino added a field goal in the first and total, had eight PATs. The Majors added a safety and two touchdowns in the second quarter for the 40-0 halftime total. In the second half, Sewanee held the Majors to 21 points and
Zeke Wilson (Snellville, Ga., George Walton Academy) highlighted the Sewanee effort with a 27-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Defensively, 2009 preseason All-American
Chalankis Brown (Millbrook, Ala., Stanhope Elmore) led Sewanee's effort with 11 total tackles. Miles Sager led the majors with eight total tackles. As a team, Millsaps had the edge in total yardage, 466-135, and had 19 first downs compared to seven for Sewanee.
Sewanee is still looking for a win in 2009 and will play at Rhodes in two weeks in the annual Orgill Cup Game. Millsaps is now 6-3 and will play Birmingham-Southern next week.
