DANVILLE, Ky. – Sewanee played SCAC football at Centre College on Saturday and Centre jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half with a safety and a touchdown. The Colonels secured the final 20-0 tally in the second half with 12 more points.
Punter Geoff Marolda (Houston, Texas, Houston Episcopal) highlighted special teams play for Sewanee with nine points for 373 yards (41.4 avg.), including three over 50 yards and a long boom of 81 yards. Offensively for Sewanee, Patrick Shelton (Hickory, N.C., Hickory) completed 10 passes for 94 yards and Michael Poarch (Chattanooga, Tenn., Tyner Academy) gained 29 yards on 15 runs. Blake Satterfield (Hartsville, Tenn., Trousdale County) caught two Tiger passes for 39 yards. Jonathan Pinque led Centre with 129 yards rushing on 26 carries, while Grant Conliffe completed 26 passes for 185 Colonel yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, senior Trey Reliford (Strawberry Plains, Tenn., Jefferson County) led with 11 total tackles. Chalankis Brown (Millbrook, Ala., Stanhope Elmore) and Zac Atkins (Dallas, Tex., Lake Highlands) each had eight tackles. Brown also picked off a pass for his second interception of the year. Graham Herron led Centre with five tackles.
Sewanee is now 0-4 and is 0-2 in the SCAC. Centre moves to 5-0 with the win. Sewanee will host Austin College for homecoming.
