BSC Men's Soccer Tops Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Sewanee and Birmingham-Southern faced off in the nightcap at Puett Field and Birmingham-Southern ended Sewanee's four-match win streak with the 6-3 men's soccer win.

After Birmingham-Southern got out to a quick 1-0 lead, Matt Lightfoot (Germantown, Tenn., Germantown) scored a pair of quick goals to give Sewanee the edge. Southern scored two more in the first before Hurst Renner (Lancaster, Pa., Salisbury) added one for Sewanee to tie the match at three. With five seconds to go in the first period, the Panthers' Tyler Evans knocked in a goal to give the Panthers the edge they would keep for the rest of the contest. Evans added two insurance goals for BSC to secure the 6-3 win over the host Tigers.

Sewanee outshot Southern 20-16 and had seven corner kick attempts, compared to three for the Panthers. Chris Grover (Collierville, Tenn., St. George's) was the goalkeeper of record for the Tigers and had two saves. Charlie Boles had five saves and the win for the Panthers in goal.

Sewanee is now 6-3 and is still perfect in the SCAC at 2-0. The Tigers will try to improve their unbeaten league record as they host Millsaps College on Sunday. Birmingham-Southern is now 8-1 and will play at Oglethorpe on Sunday.
