Sewanee and Oglethorpe Play to an SCAC Draw

BOX SCORE

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee hosted Oglethorpe in SCAC men's soccer action today and played to a 0-0 double overtime draw with the visiting Stormy Petrels.

The Tigers outshot Oglethorpe 22-16 but neither team put any in the net. Jackson Gannaway (Collierville, Tenn., Collierville) led the Tiger offensive effort with four shots. Sewanee newcomer Matt Hale (Ft. Worth, Tex., All Saints) earned the shutout in goal and had four saves on the day.

"I felt both teams started a bit tentative and when it appeared that neither were creating and finishing the chances, I think both teams opened up and became more direct", said Coach David Poggi.  "Sometimes you play very hard, are committed from start to finish, however neither team can score.  Its that extra bit of quality that is lacking in the final third, but you have to miss a bunch before you learn to score goals.  Lately
we've been getting quite a few chances".

Sewanee is 4-6-1 so far in 2008 and is 1-3-1 in the league. Oglethorpe is 2-6-3. The Tigers will face Southwestern and Trinity on the road next weekend.
