BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sewanee was at Birmingham-Southern Friday night and fell 4-0 to the Panthers. Birmingham-Southern led 3-0 at the half.
In the first period, Daniel Jackson scored first for Birmingham-Southern just three minutes into the match to take the Panthers to a 1-0 lead. Jackson scored again later in the opening period to send the Tigers up to a 2-0 lead. Garner Shivers added one more for Birmingham-Southern with just four minutes left in the first half to give the Panthers the 3-0 lead they would carry into the second half.
In the second half, Sewanee held Birmingham-Southern scoreless until the 89th minute, when Jackson scored his third goal of the night to finalize the 4-0 final tally. Birmingham-Southern outshot Sewanee 20-17 on the night. Sewanee goalkeeperMatt Hale (Ft. Worth, Tex., All Saints) logged three saves on the night in goal for Sewanee.
Sewanee (4-9-1, 1-5-1 SCAC) will face SCAC foe Millsaps in Jackson on Sunday. Birmingham-Southern will host Oglethorpe.
