SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee hosted Trinity on Saturday in a packed Harris Stadium and after giving visiting Trinity a run for its money in the second quarter, fell 27-13 in the end. Trinity led 17-13 at the half.
A pair of Al Furlow touchdowns and a Peter Licalzi field goal got Trinity out to a 17-0 lead early in the game. Sewanee rallied, though, and scored two touchdowns late in the second half on
Patrick Shelton (Hickory, N.C., Hickory) and
Trey Reliford (Strawberry Plains, Tenn., Jefferson County) runs. Reliford's touchdown was initially set up by a successful
Geoffrey Marolda (Houston, Tex., Houston Episcopal) on-side kick on a kickoff.
The visiting \#14 Tigers stepped it up in the second, holding the Sewanee offense scoreless and securing another Furlow touchdown and another Licalzi field goal in the third quarter to secure the 27-13 score in favor of Trinity.
Trinity gained 425 total offensive yards, while Sewanee had 254. Trinity had 19 first downs and Sewanee earned 17. Shelton led Sewanee's offense with 159 yards passing and a rushing touchdown. Furlow had 161 yards on the ground and eight catches for 72 yards for Trinity.
Defensively, senior
Tyler Brantley (Danielsville, Ga., Athens Academy) led Sewanee's effort with 13 total tackles.
Charles Lapeyre (Metairie, La., McCallie) grabbed Sewanee's only interception of the day and also was in on four total tackles. Dennis Grebe led Trinity with 11 tackles and an interception.
Sewanee is 2-5 and will have next weekend off before face Birmingham-Southern in Birmingham on November 8.
