Shawna Laurendine enters her sixth season as the Head Volleyball Coach at Sewanee.

Laurendine has led the Tigers to the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament each of the first five years at the helm.

In 2014, Laurendine continued to build the program. Despite an 8-19 overall record, libero Sara Jayne Sutton became the first Tiger volleyball player to be named SAA Defensive Player of the Year. Along with Sutton, two other Tigers were named to the All-SAA Team.

In her first season at Sewanee, Laurendine was named the 2012 SAA Coach of the Year. Under her direction, the Tigers won 14 matches after struggling the previous five seasons with a combined 18 victories.

Additionally, Laurendine led the Tigers to six conference wins while three underclassmen were named to the All-SAA team.

Laurendine joined the Sewanee Athletic Department after spending five seasons as head coach at Southern Arkansas University. At SAU, Laurendine was named the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Coach of the Year in 2003. Additionally, nine SAU student-athletes received All-GSC awards including Brittany Wright, who was named the 2003 GSC Player of the Year. Laurendine also served as the SAU Senior Women’s Administrator and GSC volleyball liaison to the NCAA.
 
Prior to her stint at SAU, Laurendine was the University of West Alabama Head Volleyball Coach from 1996-2000. There, Laurendine guided five UWA players to All-GSC awards.

In her collegiate coaching career of 14 seasons, she is 200-233. Her 200th career victory came with the Tigers against Wesleyan (Ga.) at Covenant College on Oct. 29, 2016, with a 3-0 sweep. 
 
Laurendine also had coaching stops at Newnan High School (2006-10), where she was the area coach of the year twice, and Rockbridge County High School (2007-08), where she received district coach of the year award.
 
A 1994 graduate of the University of Montevallo, Laurendine was a four-year letterwinner for the Falcons. Laurendine was inducted in the Montevallo Hall of Fame in 1999 after she earned NAIA First-Team All-American, American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) First-Team All-American, and Asics Tiger First-Team All-American honors. Additionally, Laurendine was awarded the 1994 Fred Sington Trophy, given annually to the best female amateur athlete in the state of Alabama.
 
Laurendine began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Montevallo from 1994-96. There, she also earned her master’s degree in physical education in 1996.
 
Recently, Laurendine served as the Health Improvement and Alcohol Prevention Coordinator at Sewanee: The University of the South. She also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Tigers in 2011 and coaches the Choo Choo City Volleyball Club.
 
Laurendine is married to Tommy Laurendine. The couple resides in Sewanee, with their two daughters, Alexa and Lakin.
