Former Sewanee player Laurel Burkhardt enters her second year as an assistant coach on the volleyball staff in 2025.
 
The Hoover, Ala., native earned Second Team All-SAA accolades as a junior, posting 258 kills (2.58 per set) with 194 digs and 40 total blocks in 26 matches. She registered 271 kills (2.28 per set) with 52 total blocks and 116 digs in 31 matches as a senior, garnering Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades and helping the Tigers to a 19-12 overall record.
 
Burkhardt was named to the SAA Academic Honor Roll three times and was voted Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators in 2022 and 2023. She finished her career with 703 kills, 395 digs and 106 total blocks.
 
She has worked two years as an assistant coach at A5 Volleyball Club in Chattanooga, assisting the head coach in planning and executing practice sessions to enhance player skills. She also provides individualized coaching to improve player technique, agility and overall performance.
 
Burkhardt earned her bachelor’s in Anthropology with a double minor in Chemistry and Biology from Sewanee in May 2024.
