Zach Shunnarah joins the University of the South men’s soccer staff for his first season as an assistant coach.

A C’23 alum, Shunnarah played for both Coach Pacella and Coach Patberg during his collegiate career. In 2022, he captained Sewanee to a 13-4-0 overall record and a 5-2-0 mark in SAA action, tying for first in the league standings with 15 points. That season, he garnered All-American honors, becoming just the second player in program history to receive this distinction. He also helped anchor a defense that ranked top 10 nationally in several defensive statistical categories.

With a strong background in data science, Shunnarah previously had the chance to work with the esteemed Center for Sports Analytics at Samford. There, he assisted Birmingham Legion FC through film study and set piece analysis. He continues to apply this background at Sewanee, evaluating individual player and team performance.

Shunnarah earned a bachelor’s in Mathematics from Sewanee in 2023 and a master’s in Data Science and Analytics from the College of Charleston in 2024, where he was also a member of the men’s soccer team.
