Nick DiBernardo begins his 10th season with the University of the South and his fifth as the head coach for men's lacrosse in 2025. After spending five seasons with the men's lacrosse program as an assistant, he was named the second head coach of the program on March 1, 2021.

In August 2019, DiBernardo added the title of Assistant Facilities Director for the athletic department and was elevated to Facilities Director in 2022. In October 2023 he was named an Assistant Athletic Director, managing all athletic facility needs and new construction. On campus, he also serves on the Center for Leadership Council.

In four seasons at the helm, DiBernardo has posted a 32-21 overall record, 23 All-Conference selections, 86 players named to the Academic Honor Roll and one conference championship.

Last season Sewanee finished 11-5 overall for the second straight campaign, earning SAA regular season co-champions before falling in the SAA Tournament championship game for the second consecutive year. Nine players were voted All-SAA.

Drew Perun garnered Honorable Mention All-American accolades by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, four players were named Academic All-District®, as selected by the College Sports Communicators, and a program-record 26 student-athletes were selected to the SAA Academic Honor Roll.

During the 2023 season, the Tigers posted an 11-5 record, registering double-digit wins for the first time since 2019. Sewanee secured a share of the SAA regular season championship and a second straight SAA Tournament championship game appearance.

Sewanee garnered 10 All-Conference selections, matching its highest total since 2017, and DiBernardo was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. Two student-athletes were recognized on the All-Region Team by the IMLCA.

In the classroom, three athletes were voted Academic All-District®, as selected by the College Sports Communicators. In addition, a then program-best 25 student-athletes were named to the SAA Academic Honor Roll.

The 2022 team finished 9-9 overall but played its best at the end of the year. Entering the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed, the Tigers won three straight games, including an overtime victory in the semifinals versus Birmingham-Southern, to clinch the program's fifth tournament championship.

Sewanee knocked off Rhodes in the championship game, securing its sixth appearance into the NCAA Championships. The program earned a home game in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, defeating Benedictine (Ill.) in the first round for the first-ever NCAA Tournament victory for the Tigers.

Four players were named All-Conference and in the classroom, 15 were listed on the Academic Honor Roll.

Because of COVID restrictions in 2021, the team played only three matches, but 20 student-athletes were named to the SAA Academic Honor Roll.

During his time as an assistant, he was a part of back-to-back SAA Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, he coached six All-Region selections and three All-Americans.

During the 2017 season, DiBernardo helped the program to 10.82 goals per contest, good for second in the conference, and 28.9 percent man-up average, also good for the second in the league.

In his first season with the program in 2016, DiBernardo tutored the Sewanee offense to conference bests in goals per game (11.38) and man-up percentage (30 percent).

Prior to Sewanee, DiBernardo spent four seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, McDaniel College, in Westminster, Md.

A Baltimore, Md., native, DiBernardo was a four-year starter with Calvert Hall College High School. He played lacrosse at McDaniel, where he was a four-year starter and a captain for two seasons.

DiBernardo graduated from McDaniel in 2011 with a bachelor's in Business Administration and earned a master's in Sports Administration, also from McDaniel, in 2014. He is married to the former Jalee Walters, and they have two children – daughter, Emma; and son, Hayes.
