Djimon Brooks enters his first season as an assistant football coach at Sewanee for the 2023 campaign.

Brooks was a member of the Georgia Tech program for six years, playing in 34 games with 12 starts over his final three years with the Yellowjackets. He posted 27 tackles in 2019, 30 stops in 2020 and 30 more tackles in 2021 from his defensive line position. Brooks earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors during his final year. He redshirted as a true freshman and saw action in one game during the 2017 season.
 
The Sandersville, Ga., native was awarded a scholarship and voted team captain before his senior year. Brooks was a two-time nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, given annually to the most outstanding FBS college football player who began his career as a walk-on. He has played professionally for two seasons for the New Orleans Breakers in the USFL and is currently signed for a third year in the league.
 
Brooks earned a bachelor’s in Economics from Georgia Tech in July 2021, doing research on concussion protocol and various other projects as a student.
 
He was a two-time All-Region selection in high school at Washington County (Ga.), helping the Golden Hawks make back-to-back state championship appearances. He graduated No. 2 in his class at WCHS.
 
He is one of six brothers, three of whom play or have played football in college – Kelly at Mercer (2012-16), Karekin (2016-19) at Penn and Jabari, currently at Samford. His father, Willie Kelly Brooks, played football at Auburn (1988-92) and was a member of two SEC championship teams (1988, 1989).
