Chris Shank enters his sixth season with the Sewanee football staff. Along with coaching the Tigers' offensive line, Shank develops and implements Sewanee's strength and conditioning program for 24 varsity sports.
A year ago, Sewanee had two All-SAA offensive linemen. The Tigers continued to be one of the top rushing teams in the nation. In 2014, averaged 241 yards on the ground. The Tigers also averaged 4.5 yards per carry under Laurendine's triple option offense.
In 2013, Sewanee led the SAA in rushing at 251 yards per game and 22 touchdowns. The Tigers also led the league in time of possession after averaging 33.50 minutes per game.
In 2012, Shank led the Tigers front five to one of its most productive seasons in school history. Behind a powerful offensive line, Sewanee averaged 296 rushing yards and led the Southern Athletic Association in fewest sacks allowed.
In 2011, the Tigers’ line paved the way for the second-best rushing attack in the league. After averaging only 131.1 yards per contest in 2010, Sewanee averaged 231.5 yards in 2011. Additionally, the Tigers, along with Birmingham-Southern, allowed the fewest sacks in the league (seven).
Shank came to the Mountain from Muskingum, where he served as an assistant coach in 2009. While at Muskingum, Shank was responsible for coaching the tight ends.
Prior to his stint with the Muskies, Coach Shank was an assistant coach at Lehigh University from 2005-2008 and also served on the staff at Heidelberg from 2003-2005. Shank graduated from Muskingum in 2003 with a B.A. in physical education.
As a player on the Muskie football team, he earned All-Conference honors as a tight end his senior year. In 2005, Shank earned a master’s degree in education from Heidelberg.
