Braden Layer

Braden Layer

Layer joins the Tigers after spending last season as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at his alma mater Denison University.

In his first year at Denison, Layer helped junior wide receiver DuShawn Brown earn North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and Associated Press Little All-American accolades.  Denison averaged 270 yards passing per game in 2014 and Brown was the favorite target as he caught 83 passes for 1,397 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The 2015 season saw the Big Red go 7-3 while the offense averaged 229 yards passing per game.  Denison quarterbacks completed 68 percent of its passing attempts while Brown posted his second-straight 1,000 yard receving season.  He leaves Denison as the record holder in every major receiving category.

Prior to returning to Denison in 2014, Layer spent one season as an assistant football coach at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn.

Layer left Denison as one of the most decorated receivers in school history.  After coming to Denison in 2008 as a quarterback, Layer made the move to wide receiver in 2010 and would go on to post 1,613 career receiving yards.

Layer received a medial hardship from the NCAA in 2012 after missing the final seven games of 2009 with an injury.  In his final year he led the team with 57 receptions for 770 yards.  He left DU ranked fifth in career receiving yards and was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Team and was a first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection.

Layer graduated from Denison in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in economics and communication.  In August of 2014, he completed his master's degree in Heath and Human Performance at Austin Peay. Layer is a native of Upper Arlington, Ohio.
