SEWANEE, Tenn. – Faith Erickson recorded a goal and an assist as Sewanee defeated Roanoke, 2-0, at Puett Field on Sunday afternoon in field hockey action, completing an undefeated home weekend for the Tigers.

The Tigers open the season 3-0 for the first time since 2015.

Sewanee controlled possession throughout the contest, outshooting Roanoke, 9-2, while holding the Maroons without a shot on goal.

With two and a half minutes remaining in the first period, Caroline Bridges drew a penalty corner for the Tigers. Maggie Hazelrigg inserted the corner and found Erickson at the top of the circle, where she fired a shot into the back of the cage to give Sewanee a 1-0 lead.

With time winding down in the second period, Erickson found Catherine Crane at the top of the circle. Crane sent a shot toward the cage that ricocheted off the far post and into the back of the cage, giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

Sewanee returns to action next weekend in Raleigh, N.C., facing Virginia Wesleyan and Meredith on Sunday.
