SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's men's tennis team earned a 4-3 road win over Berry College on Saturday morning.
The Tigers took control early, sweeping doubles to claim the opening point.
Ben Lammert and
Drew Rukavina opened with a 6-4 win, while
Samuel Schroerlucke and
Andre-Remi Jakobi secured the point with another 6-4 victory at No. 1.
Lucas Wrigley and
Max Verellen completed the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
In singles play,
Henry Hyden gave Sewanee a 2-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Berry responded with a straight-set victory at No. 3, but Wrigley pushed the Tigers to the brink of the match win with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 5.
Verellen clinched the match for Sewanee at No. 4. He dominated the first set 6-0 and secured the win with a 7-4 tiebreaker in the second. Berry picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 6 to round out the 4-3 final.
Sewanee closes out conference play Sunday at Oglethorpe.
