Women's tennis coasts to 7-0 win at Santa Cruz

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's women's tennis team opened its spring break trip to California with a 7-0 win against the University of California, Santa Cruz on Friday afternoon. 

The Tigers picked up the doubles point as Harper High and Lexi Barbee quickly got started with a 6-2 win at three. At two, Lucy Lee and Natalie Pumpelly won 7-5, securing the doubles point, before Mariella Congeni and Ivy Wilson completed the sweep with a 7-6 win at one, 8-6 in the tiebreaker. 

Barbee and Congeni quickly got things started for the Tigers in singles, as they both dropped just one game at lines six and one, respectively. Barbee won 6-0, 6-1, and Congeni won 6-1, 6-0, giving Sewanee an early 3-0 lead. At five, Hanna Davis won 6-1, 6-2. At three, Wilson won a tight first set, 7-5, before she cruised in the second set, not dropping a game, for a 6-0 decision.  

At four, Lucy Lee won 6-4, 6-4, and Harper High picked up a three-set win at line two, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. 

Sewanee will face Occidental College on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, Noon PT.
