SEWANEE, Tenn. – Max Verellen clinched the match as Sewanee's men's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over No. 32 Southwestern on Saturday morning.

Southwestern opened by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2. Sewanee picked up its lone doubles win at No. 3, where Henry Hyden and Aidan McVeigh battled to an 8-6 tiebreak victory.

The Tigers responded in singles play. Drew Rukavina evened the match quickly with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5. Samuel Schroerlucke gave Sewanee the lead with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3, and Hyden followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 to put the Tigers within one point of the match.

Verellen secured the team victory at No. 4, delivering a decisive 6-2, 6-2 win in just over an hour of play.

Sewanee completed the singles sweep with wins at the top and bottom of the lineup. At No. 1, Andre-Remi Jakobi rebounded after dropping the opening set in a tiebreak, taking the second 6-4 and the match in a 10-6 third-set tiebreak over Bernardo Clemente. Charlie Schweppe closed the day at No. 6, earning a 7-5, 6-3 win.

Sewanee will face No. 13 Trinity on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
