SEWANEE, Tenn. – Samuel Schroerlucke clinched the match for Sewanee as the Tigers defeated No. 13-ranked Trinity 4-3 in men's tennis action on Sunday morning at the Bruton Guerry Tennis Courts.

The Tigers split the first doubles matches as Trinity quickly won at two, as the No.8-ranked doubles team of Roshin Kamath and Ethan Flores collected the first match. Drew Rukavina and Max Verellen evened the doubles point with a 6-2 win at three. With the doubles point down to Andre-Remi Jakobi and Samuel Schroerlucke at one against Jared Perry and Kishan Kersten, Sewanee tied the match at 6 all to send the match to a tiebreaker. Sewanee built an early 6-1 lead, getting within one point of the doubles point. Trinity battled back, but the Tigers secured a 7-4 win to send Sewanee into singles with a 1-0 lead.

In singles, Sewanee quickly got out to a 2-0 lead as Verellen dropped just one game for a 6-0, 6-1 win in under an hour at four. Trinity, however, took a 3-2 lead as they collected three straight wins at two, one, and five.

Charlie Schweppe evened the match at 3 all with a 6-3, 6-3 win at six to bring the match down to Schroerlucke at three. The freshman won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-5, and was up 5-4 in the set but down 0-40 serving, and held his serve to win and secure the upset for Sewanee.

Sewanee will head on the road for four straight conference matches, taking on Rhodes, Millsaps, Berry, and Oglethorpe.
