Sewanee falls to No.31 Caltech, 4-3

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's women's tennis team dropped its final match of spring break to No. 31-ranked Caltech on Thursday afternoon, falling 4-3.

The Tigers collected the first doubles win of the day as Harper High and Lexi Barbee posted a 6-3 victory at No. 3. Caltech evened the score with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. With the doubles point coming down to court one, Mariella Congeni and Ivy Wilson dropped a tight decision in a tiebreaker as the Beavers claimed the doubles point.

Congeni bounced back in singles, evening the match at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 in just under an hour and a half. The Beavers quickly regained the lead with a win at No. 2 singles and extended their advantage with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 4 to move within one point of the match.

Wilson kept the Tigers alive with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3, but Caltech clinched the match with a victory at No. 6. Emma Foster added a point for Sewanee after the match had been decided, winning a third-set tiebreaker, 10-3, after dropping the second set 7-5.

Sewanee will host Southwestern and Trinity on March 28th and 29th at 9 a.m.
