Tigers win eighth straight, defeating Chapman 4-1

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's men's tennis team won its eighth straight match, defeating Chapman University 4-1 on Thursday afternoon, to close out spring break. 

Lucas Wrigley and Max Verellen collected a 6-3 win at three doubles, but the Tigers dropped two doubles 6-3, with the doubles point coming down to line one. Andre-Remi Jakobi and Samuel Schroerlucke recorded a 6-3 win for themselves to send Sewanee into singles up a point. 

Wrigley made quick work in singles, with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at line six. Chapman added a point at two singles, but Ben Lammert brought the Tigers within one point of the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win at four singles. At five, Verellen won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-2, before closing out the match for Sewanee strong with a 6-1 second set win to clinch the decision. 

Sewanee will travel to Centre next Saturday, March 21, to open conference play before taking on DePauw on Sunday.
